Located around 3 miles to the South of Winchester with around 630 homes. Linked by Shawford Down; which runs alongside the Itchen Navigation Heritage Trail, Compton comes from the Saxon "Combe-tun" and Shawford  “shallow ford” from the arrival of the railway in the 19th century. There is a primary school, local shops and mainline train station (London Waterloo 1 hour 15 minutes). The popular Bridge Inn was made famous as the location of Victor Meldrew’s death in the final TV episode of ‘One Foot in the Grave.’
